Accommodation

Postgraduate students may reside within the same building as the classrooms, ensuring convenience and a cohesive campus experience. The residence is located in a large green park surrounded by vineyards and offers:

• Private rooms furnished with a bed, desk, chair, washbasin, and closet

Resident students benefit from free bus transport within the municipalities of Carcavelos and Cascais, making daily life and commuting easy and cost‑effective.

Getting Around

The nearest airport is Lisbon (Humberto Delgado, LIS). From there, the route to the Carcavelos/Cascais area is straightforward.

From Lisbon Airport

• Metro + train: take the Metro red line from the airport to Cais do Sodé (change at Alameda to the green line), then the train from Cais do Sodé direct to Cascais. A Carris/Metro ticket is about €1.40, plus €0.50 for the reusable Viva Viagem card.
  
• AeroBus: Line 1 runs airport → Cais do Sodé roughly every 20 minutes; a 24h pass is about €3.60.
  
• Taxi: available outside the airport; fares to the student residence run roughly €35–50 depending on time and traffic.
• Uber / Bolt: app-based rides (card payment, no cash) run roughly €20–30 from the airport to the residence.

Around Cascais & to Lisbon

Local bus: the M23 bus connects the residence to Carcavelos train station, on the Cascais–Lisbon line — about 30 min to Lisbon or 15 min to Cascais.

Train to Lisbon: a single Cascais–Lisbon ticket is about €2.25 (no return tickets; a return is two singles). Load a Viva Viagem card (€0.50) with €5–10 of credit, usable on trains, metro, tram and buses in Lisbon.

Tip: with the Viver Cascais card (see below), municipal buses within Cascais are free.

Viver Cascais Card (Student Benefit)

The “Viver Cascais” card is a City Hall initiative giving benefits to anyone living, studying, or working in Cascais — well worth getting on arrival.

• Free municipal buses on all lines running within the Cascais municipality (M01–M41). Discounts of around 20% on many cultural events and 10% on municipal publications.
  
• How to get it: register online at my.cascais.pt/Viver (in Portuguese) or visit a Cascais Municipal Store, and show your student card or an enrollment certificate. The physical card costs €7 (collected in store); the digital card via the MobiCascais app is free.

Cost of Living

Accommodation at the student residence is provided free of charge and includes electricity, heating, water, and Wi-Fi (meals are not included). Beyond that, we recommend budgeting at least around €300–400 per month for living expenses.

For a rough sense of everyday prices in the area: 

• Inexpensive restaurant meal ~€10; mid-range three-course meal for two ~€40
  
• Basic groceries: milk ~€0.94/L, bread ~€1.35, eggs (12) ~€2.72, chicken ~€6.80/kg
  
• Mobile plan (10GB+) ~€19/month; home internet ~€38/month; gym ~€37/month
