Opportunities

Through the wider EPLO network, one of the largest communities of public-law scholars in Europe, students can access opportunities to explore European law, governance, public administration, and related fields alongside leading academics and practitioners.

Depending on their program, students may participate in supervised research projects, contribute to academic conferences and workshops, or develop independent work aligned with their interests. Research at the ELGU is not confined to the classroom: students work within an active institutional environment where scholarship feeds directly into policy, publication, and public debate across the EPLO's network of institutes and academies. 

Research by Level of Study

Research opportunities grow with each stage of study:

• Undergraduate students are introduced to the foundations of legal research — locating and analyzing sources, constructing arguments, and writing to academic standards — building the skills that underpin advanced study.
• Postgraduate students deepen these skills through directed research, dissertations, and close engagement with faculty on questions in their chosen field.
• Research-track students (MSt, MPhil, PhD) work most closely with faculty supervisors and EPLO experts to refine research questions, develop proposals, and produce original scholarship intended for examination, presentation, or publication.

Students are encouraged to consult their program coordinators for guidance on available research pathways and expectations.

Fellowships

Beyond its degree programs, the ELGU hosts scholars through its fellowship appointments, extending the research community to academics and practitioners from across and beyond the EPLO network.

Visiting Fellow

Doctoral researchers, postdoctoral researchers, visiting professors, and other academics and professionals from diverse backgrounds working in one of the ELGU/EPLO disciplines or areas of specialization are eligible to apply. Visiting Fellows [typically join for a defined period, contributing to research activities and the intellectual life of the School — confirm the actual arrangement, e.g. duration, whether it's funded, what fellows do]. Honorary Fellow

The honorary title of Fellow is conferred upon notable figures who have made significant contributions to their field, by decision of the governing bodies of the ELGU. There are no specific eligibility requirements or application process; the title is awarded in recognition of distinguished achievement.
