Foundation courses are an entry route into our undergraduate and postgraduate programs at the ELGU. The foundation course is a one semester-long preparatory course conducted at the ELGU campus in Athens offered to prepare prospective students who wish to continue with their studies at the ELGU to qualify for entry in the first year of a Bachelor, LLB or Postgraduate degree.

Modules delivered as part of a Foundation Course, are in accordance to the field of study chosen by the prospective students. These modules are invariably taught in English by highly-qualified instructors who hold postgraduate and doctoral degrees. Foundation studies include also English language courses that aim to improve the command of the English language and prepare them for the IELTS qualification — a qualification required by the ELGU university as a proof of proficiency in the English language.

The foundation program is a bridging course designed to equip students with the appropriate academic grounding, skills and confidence for starting the ELGU degrees both in European Union Law and in Governance. It is also a great way to get yourself acquainted with a totally new environment. Thus, when the time comes to start the actual degree, you will be ready to reach your maximum potential.

The foundation syllabus includes besides the English language modules, computer and presentation skills as well as all courses on the basic concepts of European Law and Governance. If you successfully complete a foundation semester, you can progress into Year 1 of your chosen degree, provided you have taken the relevant pathway modules and passed them at the required standard.

To whom it is addressed

This course is ideal for students that:

do not qualify for the application requirements of the ELGU degrees
do not feel confident with the command and use of the English language
postgraduate students that hold a degree in a different discipline and wish to follow the European Law orientation at the ELGU

The foundation course is a one semester taught course starting in February.

Application

Students from all over the world are admitted following a rigorous application process which consists of two-phases. Students must first submit their application form and once they have done so, candidates considered for admissions will be invited to an interview.

To apply for a program, students must first review the application form and its requirements to ensure the collection of appropriate material. By the time they have gathered all documentation they should proceed with payment of the one-time application fee either at the relevant online portal or via a bank transfer. Students should always add their surname, initial letter of their first name and course/degree title in the deposit description.

Students can then proceed with their application, which can only be conducted online and submit it along with the supporting documentation, listed below. All support documents must be in electronic format and uploaded to be sent with the application.

A successful application must include:

Uploaded High School/University Degree
Uploaded High School/University Transcript
Uploaded Certificate of Proficiency in English
(if a non-native speaker, scanned and uploaded TOEFL 83, Cambridge Proficiency grade C, IELTS 6.0, Duolingo 90 or equivalent)
Personal Statement (400 words)
Optional (if available): Reference Letter contacts (to be sent directly from Referee to relevant program email)
