The European Public Law Organization (EPLO) welcomed participants to Athens and its seaside premises in Legrena–Sounion for the 10th Migration Summer School (MIGSS), held from 13 to 17 July 2026.
This year’s programme, titled “Migration and Social Determinants of Health: Exploring Intersections of Race/Ethnicity and Public Health,” brought together an interdisciplinary group of practitioners, researchers, NGO professionals and students to examine the complex factors shaping the health and wellbeing of people on the move.
Across five days of lectures, workshops and discussions, participants explored how race, ethnicity and social determinants of health intersect with migration and influence health outcomes. The programme addressed a wide range of issues, including access to healthcare for asylum seekers, psychosocial care, migrant health and wellbeing in detention, health needs during migration, and the relationship between racism and health.
As an interdisciplinary programme, MIGSS brought together perspectives from public health, nursing, sociology, social policy, political science, international relations, human rights, economics and related fields. This diversity of perspectives encouraged participants to consider the challenges of migration and health from multiple angles and to explore the importance of equitable, inclusive approaches to healthcare and public policy.
The 10th edition of MIGSS concluded with the awarding of certificates to participants, marking the end of a rich week of learning, discussion and exchange.
